Amsterdam, Holland 084 - The Venice of Northern

Amsterdam, capital of the Netherlands and one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. This magical city combines the architecture of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries with its famous canals and bridges.
 
How come?
Amsterdam has Schiphol Airport is located 15 minutes from the city. Traveling through the airport a lot of people, so much so that it is the busiest airport in the Netherlands, the fifth in Europe and tenth in the world. It is the main base carriers such as KLM-AIRFRANCE, Martinair and Transavia, and the main airport that connects North America to Europe and Europe and Asia. In addition, spot are caught trains to the city center.

This city is well connected to other European cities by train. Such as Paris, Brussels, Berlin … It is a high-speed train called Thalys.
 
Where to Stay
Amsterdam has a great variety of places to stay. From the hotels, apartments, hostels, campsites and hostels to the floating houses are located in the romantic canals of Amsterdam.

How do I move?
In Amsterdam we can move in different ways since the options are very extensive. GVB is the Public Transport Company of the City. It has a comprehensive service, from buses to trains, trams and metro. The city has 4 subway lines and a new set to be released in 2011, 16 tram lines, 55 urban bus lines and several regional bus lines (besides the famous Ferry). There are also ferries moving to points far from the city center.

Furthermore, this city is very common to use bicycles to navigate, the rickshaw, a bike for two taxis, boats and cars of horses that roam the streets are quieter city.
 

What to see?
Amsterdam has many interesting museums that you cannot miss. One is the Rijksmuseum history. This museum has works by many artists such as Fra Angelico, Rembrandt and Amsterdam National Museum is dedicated to art, craft and van Rijn or Paul Rubens, also has paintings of the Golden Dutchman and a large collection of Asian art.  Another of the most important museums of the city is the Van Gogh Museum, which contains the collection of paintings by this artist. Comprised of two buildings and opened in 1973. This fantastic museum has more than 200 paintings by Van Gogh from all periods and about 400 drawings. Among the works are «The guests of potatoes,» «The bedroom at Arles» and a version of «Sunflowers». Furthermore, this museum has not only works of Vincent Van Gogh but other artists among which are: Courbet, Gauguin, Monet, Mauve or Millet.  For lovers of art, other museums cannot miss are: the art Modern museum or Stedelijk Museum or the Rembrandt House Museum.

Another of the most visited places is the famous Anne Frank House, which is a museum which opened in 1960. This place was where Anne wrote her diary and is located next to the Westerkerk.

The Hortus Botanicus is another interesting place. Founded in 1660 and is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. This garden features rare and ancient species, including coffee plant from which came the cutting which was the basis for the plantations of Central and South America. 

Vondelpark is one of the most beautiful places in the city. It has 48 hectares and is the largest park in the capital. It is a place where we can sit and relax beside the beautiful landscape, where children can play or simply drink in one of the many terraces of the famous park.

You cannot leave without visiting the city’s red light district. This place is situated in the heart of the city and is famous for the many romantic canals running through it.
In addition, Amsterdam has other places of tourist interest, as is the Royal Palace, National Monument on the Dam, the church Oudekerk or Flower Market.
