Madrid and Barcelona, the two most important Spanish cities, are honored by the air route with more traffic across the EU, ahead of joining the Heathrow airport in London to New York JFK, as well as two of the airports with more traffic, with Barajas at 5th in Europe and 9th in El Prat.
These cities are connected by daily flights, which make continuous Madrid-Barcelona route. Iberia, Spanair, Vueling, Clickair and Air Europe offers several flights a day, and Ryanair has the possibility of approaching from Madrid to Girona airport, from where they may move to the city. The frequencies of these flights allow us extreme flexibility and have the option to make the airlift in the case of flights for business.
Iberia, for example, covers its airlift every half hour, as well as official statistical data with a timeliness of 95%. Spanair, the second company to offer more flights on this route, so does every half hour during high season and every hour in low season.
You can check all these flights eDreams where you can book flights with these airlines on the route Madrid – Barcelona and the Barcelona – Madrid
However, the AVE has been a strong competition for these flights, all supported on the central location of the stations compared to the airports, in addition to the shorter waiting time for boarding. Curiously though, the prices of flights are still below the train ticket that unites these two cities, and really, for both cities to connect both airports with the city is not too complicated since, example, the metro connects directly to the main center of Madrid and Barcelona, which will further minimize these differences.
The AVE train connects the two cities in 2 hours and 38 minutes, with an output of one train every hour and a starting price of 120 €. Knowing that the cost of flight Madrid-Barcelona and back comes out at around 60/70 euros and it takes 1 hour and 10 minutes, we have only to study the different ways that we can get to the airport, and them up from the city center.
Get from Barajas airport to central Madrid:
In the case of Madrid Barajas Airport is 12 kms. from the city center. There, as in El Prat, we can find the major car rental companies. By taxi the journey may take about 30 minutes if traffic is smooth, while we have to take bus line 200 of the red public buses, whose price is 1 €. However, I have always used the Metro, as a line not too busy and quite fast. The line 8 metro takes you to Nuevos Ministerios in just 15 minutes, for 2 euros.
Reach El Prat airport to the center of Barcelona:
In the case of Barcelona, have the same options as in Barajas. In coming to take a taxi about 30 minutes and also the cost be around 30 euros, and that you may be charged for each bag that you carry. They also have bus (aerobus the call) that you can take out of the terminal and that will leave you in Plaza de España and the Plaza de Catalonia. Depart every 15 minutes and cost about 4 euros if it is one way, and if it is 7 euros return. The train also goes to the airport in Barcelona, which are connected perfectly with the center in just 25 minutes. If you take it off, if you go to the center, at the Barcelona Sants or Passeig de Gracia.
As you can see the aspect of travel from both airports is well resolved without too many problems both in Madrid and Barcelona, so the distance is not an impediment excessive. And only then shall ye make up the price of air tickets against less time waiting for trains.

Its really a great post and filled with detailed information. I agree that Girona Airport has great facilities and one can go to Barcelona via car hire, taxi or bus but the airport has got a lot of traffic and i have come across few people looking for the lost luggage.I know this problem is common among all major airports across the world. It may be the problem of some specific airline or something at Girona Airport but i think Girona Airport authorities should look into it.
