Spain is a member of the European Union, its territory occupies most of the Iberian peninsula, over the archipelagos of the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Spain is the third largest country after Russia and France, with a land area of 504,645 square km, is the most mountainous country after Switzerland. Spain has many different climates because of its geography, with growing influence of Mediterranean climate especially in the coast, mild temperatures and abundant rainfall all year, except in the summer. But within the territory the climate becomes more extreme with low temperatures in winter and high summer with little rain. The Cantabrian Mountains and the Pyrenees have a mountain climate with low temperatures and abundant rainfall. In the area of Almeria, Granada, Murcia, Alicante and Ebro Valley, the climate is arid or semiarid, with respect to the Canary Islands has a warm climate all year round with little rain, climate also presented areas of Malaga and Granada.
In terms of economics, Spain ranks eighth in the world economy, traditionally agricultural country, is the largest producer in Western Europe, economic activities such as livestock, fisheries, mining, industry and energy production and tourism are the support of the Spanish economy.
Spain sits in second place worldwide as a tourist destination and as the second foreign exchange earnings from this business. Among the attractions of the Spanish coast are the beaches in the area of Huelva, Cadiz and the Costa del Sol in Malaga and the water sports are the ideal places in the Balearics and the Costa Brava, in the Basque Coast. For winter sports are the ideal places in the region of Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque country that when summer arrives the valleys are covered with a beautiful green in this area are the most important natural reserves.
